The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing and Aged Care Council (NATSIAACC) has submitted critical recommendations on the Aged Care Rules: Stage 2c Release – Chapter 4 and 6 Rules to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders receive culturally safe, trauma-aware, and healing-informed care.
Key recommendations include:
- Embedding cultural competence in aged care regulations.
- Strengthening funding models to support community-led services.
- Ensuring equitable and accessible aged care for all Elders and Older people.
- Addressing unfair compliance burdens on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Providers.
- Reforming banning orders to prevent systemic workforce exclusion.
NATSIAACC calls on the Government to prioritise cultural safety, self-determination, and fairness in aged care reforms. Our Elders and Older people deserve better.
