Media Release: NATSIAACC welcomes the National Immunisation Strategy 2025-2030

30/06/2025

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing and Aged Care Council (NATSIAACC) proudly welcomes the launch of the National Immunisation Strategy for Australia 2025-2030, a comprehensive roadmap to protect all Australians, with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, against vaccine-preventable diseases. NATSIAACC acknowledges this significant step towards improving health equity and safeguarding the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and Older People.

“The National Immunisation Strategy 2025–2030 represents a significant commitment to addressing health inequities faced by our communities. By prioritising equity and community engagement, this strategy paves the way for improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NATSIAACC stands ready to support its implementation and ensure that our Elders, Older People, and Communities are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases” says NATSIAACC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Cassara Hardie.

Australia’s National Immunisation Strategy 2025–2030 sets a bold vision for a healthier nation through immunisation. The Strategy’s mission is to reduce the impact of vaccine-preventable diseases by achieving high uptake of safe, effective, and equitable immunisation across all stages of life. It adopts a whole-of-system approach, recognising the critical need for collaboration, innovation, and community-led solutions.
The Strategy was developed through extensive consultation with state, territory, and local governments, immunisation experts, and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector. Ongoing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations will guide its implementation, ensuring community voices are at the centre of decision-making.

NATSIAACC looks forward to working with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector, and all partners to realise the vision of a healthier, more equitable Australia.
